Don Braden Don Braden has toured the world and recorded extensively both as a leader and as a sideman with jazz greats Betty Carter, Wynton Marsalis, Roy Haynes, Freddie Hubbard, Tom Harrell, and many others. He has also spent many years composing and producing for comedian and actor Bill Cosby. His latest CD on the HighNote label is Brighter Days, and the next one, The New Hang, is due out in early 2004!

Don Braden Joe is currenlty the leader of Cecil's Big Band every Monday night here at the club. It is with this ensemble that Joe's talents really shine. The energy of the Big Band combined with his great gift for songwriting are a perfect match, as can be evidenced by the audience reaction at any of his performances. Constantly writing new material, Joe pushes the group to debut new music constantly, keeping the show fresh for even the most devoted audience member. A hip look, an evocative implementation and a robust repertoire make Joe and his band one of the best things happening in music today.

Bruce Williams Bradford Hayes, a native of Petersburg, Virginia has been a force on the jazz scene in the northeastern U.S. for several years now. He has performed at a number of clubs, colleges and concert halls that include Birdland (NYC), Tavern on the Green (NYC), and the Beacon Theater (NYC). Bradford has performed in different musical settings with Jimmy Heath, Al Grey, Cecil Payne, Rufus Reid, Ray Bryant, Winard Harper, Ben Riley, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Cecil Brooks III, Jerry Butler, and The Dells. Mr. Hayes has also opened for Betty Carter, Joe Henderson, Max Roach, Marlena Shaw, Pieces Of A Dream, and Hilton Ruiz among others.

Sherman Irby It seems as though Sherman Irby came out of nowhere. Before we knew it, he was on the New York scene playing at Small’s, working in the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, stealing the show in Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead program, and touring the world with Roy Hargrove. Irby has recorded three records to date: Full Circle (Blue Note), Big Mama’s Biscuits (Blue Note), and Black Warrior (BWR). The New York Times voted his record, Big Mama’s Biscuits, as one of the top 10 records of 1998.

Bruce Williams Inspired and innovative, THE D'SLYCE BAND deftly blends funk and R&B with jazz and hip-hop. The band is led by composer- keyboardist Phil Field and singer-songwriter Dee Jackson. Jackson studied voice at the Jazzmobile in Harlem, NY, and under classical conductor John Eric Floreen at Rutgers University. Field was a key member of the groups Mtume and Aurra. He has worked with a wide range of top artists, from jazz great Roy Ayers to R&B legend Gwen Guthrie to “the queen of hip-hop soul,” Mary J. Blige. His songwriting credits include the hit "How Many Ways" from Toni Braxton's multi-platinum debut.

Hendrik Meurkens Hendrik Meurkens,is the most important jazz harmonica player since Toots Thielemans. German-born but since 1992 based in New York, Meurkens' recordings and performances garner worldwide acclaim as critics recognized Hendrik as 'the new Jazz harmonica voice'. He has recorded fifteen albums, and continues to perform as both a guest artist, and with his own groups, both in festivals and clubs globally. As a featured artist, he has recorded with Charlie Byrd, Jimmy Cobb, Ivan Lins, Monty Alexander, Claudio Roditi ,Manfredo Fest and Mundell Lowe, and has toured with the Ray Brown Trio, Paquito D'Rivera, Oscar Castro Neves, Herb Ellis, Herbie Mann, Charlie Byrd, and James Moody among many others.

After working together for 25 years, this is one 'tight' act. Their music consists of standards from the American songbook, jazz classics, and original material. They have developed a duet presentation for horn and voice that is unique and satisfying. They have appeared with Bob Dorough, Jay Leonhart, Warren Vache, and regularly work with Richard Wyands, or Joe Cohn, Chip Jackson or Lisle Atkinson, Steve Johns or LeRoy Williams in their rhythm sections.

Nick Rolfe is a highly versatile musician, currently playing with various r&b, jazz, gospel, funk and alternative groups in and around New York. Nick has worked/or performed with numerous musicians including: saxophonist Frank Foster, drummer Charlie Persip, bassist Eddie Gomez, alto-saxophonist Arnie Lawrence, trumpeter Jimmy Owens, saxophonist Billy Harper, bassist Buster Williams, bassist Reggie Workman, bassist Cecil McBee, drummer Cecil Brooks III, saxophonist Don Braden, and trombonist Steve Turre, to name a few. Nick is currently touring internationally with his own critically acclaimed band in support of his latest release as a leader, “The Remedy”.

Drummer Vincent Ector stays very active recording, teaching and performing locally in New York and New Jersey and at other venues and jazz festivals throughout the world with such artists as, Bobby Watson, Gloria Lynne, Orrin Evans, Onaje Alan Gumbs, The Spirit of Life Ensemble and Jimmy Bruno. As a performer, he has worked with jazz luminaries that include: Freddie Hubbard, Gloria Lynne, Charles Earland, Bobby Watson, Jimmy Bruno, Ted Curson, George Cables, Joey DeFrancesco, Melvin Sparks, Grady Tate, Grover Washington Jr. and Shirley Scott. Most recently, Vincent produced his first CD as a leader entitled "Rhythm Master" for Blues Leaf Records.

The sounds of yesterday, today, and tomorrow are generated from the mind and soul of Julius Tolentino. He has performed with such distinguished artists such Eric Reed, Cyrus Chestnut, Philip Harper, Natalie Cole, and Kevin Mahogany to name a few. He also performed with the Count Basie and Duke Ellington Orchestras. In 1999 Julius joined the Illinois Jacquet Big Band performing, touring, and recording with the group for 5 years. Julius was chosen to be apart of a recording (Sharp Nine, "On The Loose") showcasing the young lions on the New York scene released in 2001. His long awaited debut record "Just the Beginning" will be in stores 2005.
